Island Apples

On an island in Maine there are many apple trees.  A few are in small orchards but most are scattered randomly, having sent down roots wherever birds, or perhaps, horses, have dropped some seed.  The fruit can be brilliant against the July sky or rotting in crevices on the beach.  Painting in “bits and pieces” allows me to include different locations, times of year, and varieties of apples in one work.
